2004 Toyota Camry:Buying Car with salvage title?

Is the Engines Good or Not.

Without knowing the information on the engine that has 100,000 miles on it unfortunately there's no way to tell for sure if this is a good engine or not. Only time will be able to determine that based on whether not it starts to use oil or there is a coolant leakage problem. Typically this engine is a very reliable engine if it is maintained properly. I have seen them do in excess of 200,000 miles with no trouble. My concern is that if the dealership is saying that this was a sloppy job and there are alignment issues you may have other headaches down the road.

Under normal conditions the salvage yard should have the paperwork that gives the vehicle identification number and the specific mileage that is on the engine and car. There should be a vehicle identification tag number on the block of the engine if you took it to independent repair shop they may be able to locate this tag and with that vehicle identification number you could research the history of the vehicle. Again without knowing the maintenance on the engine is hard to determine what, life expectancy you can get. Without removing the valve cover and inspecting for sludge or sending a borescope down into the cylinders to inspect the cylinder wall wear there's no way to know for certain. If it is not using oil or not knocking I would think that you're probably okay.

This details will help.
Thanks.
