2001 Toyota Corolla: Idle Problem?

The engine idles at 1800 - 2000 rpm for more than a minute before it settles down to below 1500.

Th idle speed needs to be lowered. But its punctually perfect in this case.

Test by this procedure.
Where does the engine idle finally settle out at when the engine is warmed up after about 7 to 10 min. of driving?

It should be 700 to 800 RPM.
If its then all is good.

Your final engine idle speed is normal. If it's taking more time than that to get down to 700 RPM then what I would recommend that you do is remove the throttle body and then remove the idle air control motor from the bottom of the throttle body. Clean both the bore and plate of the throttle body and clean the carbon from the idle speed control motor. This idle speed control motor is notorious for getting carbon buildup. As far as changing the speed when it's cold that is controlled by the computer. As long as you're under 2000 RPM and typically it will be at about 1700 when it's stone cold. It will not hurt to engage the transmission at that point although you will require a little extra brake pressure at a stop until it dials down to normal.

This details will help.
Thanks.
